This project was done in collaboration with Aga Khan Museum’s 2023 Light Up the Dark event in which 10 OCAD U students/alumni were chosen to create animations that were projected onto the museum’s facade.
We were each asked to create individual animations inspired by the museum collections and Shezad Dawood’s “Night in the Garden of Love” exhibition, which was itself inspired by and Yusef Lateef’s work. Consequently, each of the animations were accompanied by music by Yusef Lateef.

The animation “The Blue Iris” was inspired by a set of tiles from the Aga Khan Museum’s permanent collection titled: “Two Tiles with Iris Plants, from a Spandrel Panel” which dates back to 17th century Iran.
The two tiles were once part of a series of archway tiles that completed a larger narrative. The intention behind “The Blue Iris” was to not only recreate a complete version of the series of tiles but also to bring each of the elements to life through 2D animation.
